Meet New People at the Potteries Theatre Company

Bullying Policy

We will not permit any form of bullying in our company

The aim of the anti-bullying policy is to ensure that members are in a supportive, caring and safe environment without fear of being bullied. Bullying is anti-social behaviour and affects everyone; it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Only when all issues of bullying are addressed will members be able to fully benefit from the opportunities available at The Potteries Theatre Company.

Bullying is defined as deliberately hurtful behaviour, repeated over a period of time, where it is difficult for those being bullied to defend themselves.

The three main types of bullying are:

  • physical (hitting, kicking, theft)
  • verbal (name calling, racist remarks)
  • indirect (spreading rumours, excluding someone from social groups).

Implementation

The following steps may be taken when dealing with incidents:

  • If bullying is suspected or reported, the incident will be dealt with immediately by the member of staff who has been approached
  • A clear account of the incident will be recorded and given to the Chairman/Vice Chairman/Child Welfare Officer
  • The Chairman/Vice Chairman/Child Welfare Officer will interview all concerned and will record the incident
  • Parents will be informed

The following disciplinary steps can be taken:

  • Official warnings to cease offending
  • If it continues the member/s will be asked to leave the company.

Monitoring, evaluation and review

The Potteries Theatre Company will review this policy annually and assess its implementation and effectiveness.

If we have any concerns that a child in our company is being bullied or is bullying, we will discuss the matter with the parent/carer immediately. We will work with you to support your child to resolve the problem.

If you have any concerns regarding your child please discuss them with the Chairman/Vice Chairman/ Child Welfare Officer as soon as possible. It is much better to deal with these problems before they become major issues.
